At 161mph in level flight, 1625fpm in climb, and a 33% increase in roll rate with NO weight penalty the Xtreme Decathlon lives up to its name! The Xtreme is not just a “big-engine” super decathlon. It is a comprehensive redesign that includes new designs for the landing gear and wings as well as numerous changes to reduce weight including an all carbon fiber floor. The firewall forward is completely new with an improved engine mount, new cowling design, 4 into 1 exhaust system, and most importantly a 210HP Lycoming AEIO-390.

The old saying “there’s no replacement for displacement” holds true for the AEIO-390. The extra 30 cubic inches of displacement plus an improved cylinder head design allows for an increase of 30HP and 58fl*lb of torque compared to the AEIO-360 used on the Super Decathlon. A longer and wider carbon fiber propeller from MT was used to “soak up” all of that extra power and convert it into thrust resulting in significant performance improvements in takeoff, climb, cruise, and vertical penetration.

One of the best metrics used to evaluate the performance of an aerobatic airplane is the number of vertical rolls that it can perform from level flight before kicking into a hammerhead. The 180HP super decathlon can perform 1/2 vertical roll entered from level flight (no dive). Respectable for a sportsman level airplane, but not enough to be competitive in the intermediate class. With the increased level flight speed, thrust, and roll rate the Xtreme decathlon can perform a full vertical roll from level flight! The Xtreme performs maneuvers like a half roll up cap off with ease making it a true intermediate category competition aerobatic platform!

The Decathlon has always been a “jack of all trades” as the name suggests. The added power of the Xtreme Decathlon has yielded significant improvements in the airplanes short field performance and cruising speeds making it even more capable as a cross country and back country airplane as well as a weekend aerobat. No other airplane can rival the Decathlons ability to perform in such a wide spectrum of flight profiles.
